What is Wrong with My Blog?
You race home one day after having an ingenious plan to start your own blog. Google helps you find all the information you need and suggests the perfect platform for your future journal.
All goes well and within 2 hours you have a brand new blog tailored to your wants and needs. Over the next week you update your blog daily or even hourly and you struggle to contain all the excitement that has built up inside you.
However, once you passed the second week milestone you noticed that there was still no-one following you or commenting on your “amazing” articles that you have been writing.
Suddenly your excitement, zest and zeal turns into self-consciousness, self-pity and depression…You keep asking yourself simple questions like, “What is wrong with me?”, “Why doesn’t anyone like my writing?”, “Why does that guy get so much comments, but I get none?” — The truth is that all these questions actually have pretty valid answers at the end of the day.
So before you start screaming, “WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY BLOG?”
Let’s dive into a few simple things that could possibly be holding you back from receiving countless followers, subscribers and comments on your blog. You have to understand that things don’t just happen overnight and unless you have the ability to make people notice your blog from the start, it is going to take some time to build a following.
Here are a few simple answers to your questions.
What is wrong with me?
Absolutely nothing. Do you think TechCrunch was popular from day one? Do you think Michael Arrington started a blog and became popular overnight? I don’t think so. Blood, sweat and tears were put into creating a blogging empire.
If you were to research and dig into the history of some of the bigger blogs, you will find that it took them quite a long time coupled with some hard work and dedication to start gaining traction and recognition in the online world.
Conclusion: The reason why you don’t have anyone following you yet isn’t because there is something wrong with you. It’s because these things take time. It takes time to list your blog and articles in search results, it takes time to build up a archive.
You have to remember that there are millions and millions of blogs out there…. So ask yourself, “What makes my blog different from the rest?”
Why doesn’t anyone like my writing?
Obviously this could be answered with the same point of reference as stated in my previous answer, but I will approach it differently for you.
Let’s say you created the most mind blowing gadget known to man, but you haven’t told anyone about it; would people be flocking toward you to find out more or not say anything at all? Yea, you guessed it…they will do the latter. The same principle applies to your blog and articles, if people don’t know about it how will they get to read it?
You see people generally have the wrong perception about the internet. They think that if you post something online, millions of people will see it, they can’t be more wrong though. With Google and Facebook already only serving us content that they want us to see, it’s becoming harder and harder to get noticed.
So the biggest mistake you can make is giving up. Sure it will become frustrating and annoying to keep writing and writing and have no response to your statements and opinions, but you should just keep pressing on. Things don’t come easy and hard work pays off. You have to remember that.
Conclusion: If you want to get noticed — start promoting your blog and articles wherever, whenever you can. Post it on Facebook, Google+, Twitter and even News Feed directories. Just get the content out there. You could even go as far as approaching other bloggers and asking them to check out your content and tweet the article if they liked it.
The sky is the limit when it comes to promoting your stuff…think out of the box and be creative, that is the only way you are going to make a dent in the market and in your niche. So be honest and ask yourself, “Have I been doing everything in my power to get my content seen and promoted?”
Why does that guy get so much comments, but I get none?
I actually have a simple answer to this question…Hard work, dedication, influence and persistence.
Yes, that is all there is to it. Let me break it down for you though.
Hard Work
Writing tens of hundreds of articles takes hard work; especially if you have a day job as well. Coming home after a long day usually wants to be followed up by relaxation not more work. However, if you work hard early on, things will get easier along the way and the rewards will come along much sooner. Keep working hard right from the start and you should be gaining followers and comments in no time at all.
Dedication
Dedication is an important factor to the success of your blog. You need to stay dedicated in order to succeed. Dedication should be driven by motivation for something that you love….giving up shouldn’t even be a thought…ever!
Influence
Influencing people and giving them advice(if you have the knowledge) could gain you easy and quick recognition in the field or niche. People love learning new things and if you offer them new things to learn and think about, they will come and spread the word.
Persistence
Being persistent could sometimes be annoying to some people, but you know what you want so press for it. Persistence is an unrivaled factor for success. If you keep pressing and pressing you will eventually get what you want in the field and that is recognition and a following.
Conclusion: Remember that nothing happens overnight and if you keep writing unique and valuable content you will reap the rewards of comments and followers. Being unique will also help you leave a mark in the niche/world and you will be recognized for that into the future.
Remember that there is NOTHING wrong with your blog. It just takes some time to build up and be seen.
Good luck.
